We have great-grandparents who lived in a small community in the northwest corner of their home county. During their lives, most doctors were in the next county to the west. Almost all of the nearby churches and cemeteries were in the county to the north.

<1>Our distances are not driving distances, but are calculated as a 'straight-line' (or point-to-point) distance. A straight line distance ignores things like rivers, canyons, lakes, et cetera - it's truly a line from Point A (ie- Island Crossing) to Point B.Our distance measurements begin at a specific point in Island Crossing. The point we use is located at these GPS coordinates - Latitude: 37.5349, Longitude: -119.0682       In this case, the coordinates for Island Crossing have been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (GNIS).
