The community of Hollister is the Seat for San Benito County.

San Benito County was founded in 1874 and was created by taking area from Monterey County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> San Benito had a population of 62,803 people. This is an increase of 13.63% since the last Census (which gave a population of 55,269 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, San Benito represented 0.15% of the total population of California.
