At the time of the 2010 Census, Watauga had a population of 23,497 people. This makes Watauga the county's 12th most populous community.

The population of Watauga represents 0.09% of the total population of Texas (which has 25,145,561 people), making it the state's 115th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 23,497 people, the population of Watauga increased 7.25% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 21,908 people).
