Welcome to Afton (aka 'Taber City') ...

So far, we found very little information about Afton. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

Afton would have been located within present day Elko County<2>.

Afton was founded in 1914.

While the community is gone, the present day location for Afton is 6,430 feet [1,960 m] above sea level.<3> In other words, the elevation of Afton is about 1¼ mile [or ~2 km] above sea level.

Time Zone: The area where Afton was located is in the Pacific Time Zone (PST/PDT) and observes daylight saving time

The Area Code where Afton was located: 775

The community of Afton has also been called Taber City.

We originally found mention of Afton in the GNIS. For more information, see the Referenced GNIS Codes section on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found (so far) for Afton was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<5>

From that list, the Afton post office opened in 1914. The Afton post office closed in 1918.
