At the time of the 2010 Census, Mebane had a population of 11,393 people (or 7.54% of the total population of Alamance County). This makes Mebane the county's 3rd most populous community.

We originally found mention of Mebane in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Mebane was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<10>

From that list, the Mebane post office opened in 1885.

We also found Mebane in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
