At the time of the 2010 Census, Lynden had a population of 11,951 people (which is 5.94% of the total population of Whatcom County). This makes Lynden the county's 2nd most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Lynden was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Lynden post office opened in 1873.
