  • It's a common practice for mapmakers to remove the apostrophe from possessive names. So Hamiltons Fort may originally have been Hamilton's Fort. Sometimes the trailing 's' might be dropped altogether, in which case Hamiltons Fort might be written as Hamilton Fort.
