Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Wheeler had an population of 1,477 people. This is a decrease of 7.22% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 7.18% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Wheeler had a population of 1,592 people (or 29.55% of the total population of Wheeler County). This makes Wheeler the county's 2nd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,592 people, the population of Wheeler increased 15.53% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 1,378 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Wheeler was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>
