How Far From Lone Star to ...
We spend a lot of time looking through Gazetteers & Almanacs that were published in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Many of the Gazetteers include the distance from a city such as Lone Star to various places of note, such as the White House.
With a nod to our favorite Gazetteers, the straight-line distance beginning in Lone Star and extending to:
- Kaufman, which is the Seat of Kaufman County, lies just to the Southeast.
- Austin, which is the State Capital of Texas, lies 182 miles [292.9 km]<1> to the south southwest (SSW). If you could drive a straight line from Lone Star to Austin, with an average speed<6>of 63 miles [101.4 km] per hour, it would take a little over three hours to make the trip. A comfortable walk of 2.2 miles [3.5 km] per hour would take 11 days. A horse and buggy averaging 3.2 miles [5.1 km] per hour would take 8 days.
- The White House (Washington, DC) is 1,162 miles [1,870.1 km] to the east northeast (ENE). Driving would take about three full days, a buggy would take 46 days and walking would take 66 days.
