Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Lexington had an population of 22,314 people. This is an increase of 24.87% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 127.86% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Lexington had a population of 17,870 people (or 6.79% of the total population of Lexington County). This makes Lexington the county's most populous community.

The population of Lexington represents 0.39% of the total population of South Carolina (which has 4,625,364 people), making it the state's 23rd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 17,870 people, the population of Lexington increased 82.48% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 9,793 people).
