Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Scappoose had an population of 7,624 people. This is an increase of 15.66% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 53.22% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Scappoose had a population of 6,592 people (which is 13.36% of the total population of Columbia County). This makes Scappoose the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Scappoose represents 0.17% of the total population of Oregon (which has 3,831,074 people), making it the state's 67th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 6,592 people, the population of Scappoose increased 32.48% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 4,976 people).

We originally found mention of Scappoose in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Scappoose was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Scappoose post office opened in 1872.

We also found Scappoose in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
