Welcome to Sugarite ...

So far, we found very little information about Sugarite. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

Sugarite would have been located within present day Colfax County<2>.


The location of Sugarite has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<3>


While we don't have a date for the founding of Sugarite, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1912.

While the community is gone, the present day location for Sugarite is 6,930 feet [2,112 m] above sea level.<4> In other words, the elevation of Sugarite is about 1¼ mile [or ~2¼ km] above sea level.

Time Zone: The area where Sugarite was located is in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time

To Help With Your Genealogy Research ...

We have a couple of sections for those tracing their genealogy.

Adding Sugarite to Our Gazetteer ...

We originally found mention of Sugarite in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Sugarite was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Sugarite post office opened in 1912.

We also found Sugarite on a map titled Rand McNally Map of New Mexico (1951).
