We aren't confident of the location of Sopris, so consider the above location as an estimate.<3> While we don't have a date for the founding of Sopris, you might consider that their post office opened in 1888. The community was inundated by Trinidad Lake. While the community is gone, the present day location for Sopris is 6,230 feet [1,899 m] above sea level.<4> In other words, the elevation of Sopris is about 1¼ mile [or ~1¾ km] above sea level. Time Zone: The area where Sopris was located is in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time The location where Sopris once stood is in the (719) area code.
