From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Gardiner was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>
From that list, the Gardiner post office opened in 1897.
We also found Gardiner on a map titled Rand McNally Map of New Mexico (1920).
