So far, we found very little information about Gibbs City. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

Gibbs City was located in the western region of Michigan's Upper Peninsula (UP).

Gibbs City would have been located within present day Iron County<2>.

While we don't have a date for the founding of Gibbs City, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1917.

While the community is gone, the present day location for Gibbs City is 1,480 feet [451 m] above sea level.<3>.

Time Zone: The area where Gibbs City was located is in the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT) and observes daylight saving time

We originally found mention of Gibbs City in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Gibbs City was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

X2X - From that list, the Gibbs City post office opened in 1917.

We also found Gibbs City in the book titled SPV's Comprehensive Railroad Atlas of North America - Great Lakes West.
