The community of Crystal Falls is the Seat for Iron County.

Iron County was founded April 3, 1885. Iron was created by taking area from Marquette and  Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Iron had a population of 11,066 people. This is a decrease of 6.3% since the last Census (which gave a population of 11,810 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Iron represented 0.12% of the total population of Michigan.
