Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Smyrna had an population of 11,852 people. This is an increase of 18.25% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 108.7% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Smyrna had a population of 10,023 people (which is 6.15% of the total population of Kent County). This makes Smyrna the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Smyrna represents 1.12% of the total population of Delaware (which has 897,934 people), making it the state's 5th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 10,023 people, the population of Smyrna increased 76.49% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 5,679 people).

We originally found mention of Smyrna in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Smyrna was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Smyrna post office opened in 1807.

We also found Smyrna in the book titled U.S. Post Offices (Oct. 1846).
