The community of Wilmington is the Seat for New Castle County.

New Castle County was founded in 1664.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> New Castle had a population of 559,941 people. This is an increase of 3.99% since the last Census (which gave a population of 538,479 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, New Castle represented 59.97% of the total population of Delaware.
