At the time of the 2010 Census, Dover had a population of 36,047 people (which is 22.21% of the total population of Kent County). This makes Dover the county's most populous community.

The population of Dover represents 4.01% of the population of Delaware (which has 897,934 people), making it the state's 2nd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 36,047 people, the population of Dover increased 12.17% from the 2000 Census (with a count of 32,135 people).
