Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Dover had an population of 38,334 people. This is an increase of 6.34% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 19.29% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Dover had a population of 36,047 people (which is 22.12% of the total population of Kent County). This makes Dover the county's most populous community.

The population of Dover represents 4.01% of the population of Delaware (which has 897,934 people), making it the state's 2nd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 36,047 people, the population of Dover increased 12.17% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 32,135 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Dover was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Dover post office opened in 1791.
