At the time of the 2010 Census, Norwalk had a population of 85,603 people (or 9.34% of the total population of Fairfield County). This makes Norwalk the county's 6th most populous community.

The population of Norwalk represents 2.4% of the population of Connecticut (which has 3,574,097 people), making it the state's 12th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 85,603 people, the population of Norwalk increased 3.2% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 82,951 people).

We originally found mention of Norwalk in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Norwalk was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<10>

From that list, the Norwalk post office opened in 1773.

We also found Norwalk in the book titled U.S. Post Offices (1803).
