At the time of the 2010 Census, Stamford had a population of 122,643 people (or 13.38% of the total population of Fairfield County). This makes Stamford the county's 4th most populous community.

The population of Stamford represents 3.43% of the total population of Connecticut (which has 3,574,097 people), making it the state's 8th most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Stamford was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the Stamford post office opened in 1776.

We also found Stamford in the book titled U.S. Post Offices (Oct. 1846).
