Adding Mountain Park to Our Gazetteer ...

As we work on our Gazetteer, we occasionally find mention of a community that is new to us. When we find such a community, we add it to our Gazetteer with the hope of adding more information in the future.

The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Mountain Park was on a map titled Road Map for Montana & Southern Alberta (from Shell Oil, 1951).

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Mountain Park, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>An 'estimated' location is one where we have been given GPS coordinates, but are unable to verify the accuracy of those coordinates. That said, we have some confidence that we have placed the marker near the actual location. A typical reason for being unable to verify a location is that it might be on private property or maybe historic and gone without an obvious trace.
<3>The elevation is an estimate for the area around Mountain Park - it will be higher in some places and lower in others.
<4>When there's a risk of an area code running out of phone numbers, an 'Overlay Area Code' is created that has the same geographic boundaries as the existing area code. In this case, the 780 code has been Overlayed with one of the following codes: 368, 587 or 825. New phone numbers in the Mountain Park area will be assigned with one of these codes: 780, 368, 587 or 825. As a result, placing a call in the Mountain Park area will require 10-digit dialing (where you enter both the area code and then the phone number).
