Welcome to Castle Rock ...So far, we found very little information about Castle Rock. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1> We've added Castle Rock to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. We aren't confident of the location of Castle Rock, so consider the above location as an estimate.<3> While we don't have a date for the founding of Castle Rock, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was in a book dated 1895. From The Origin of Certain Place Names,<4> the origin of Castle Rock is described as "So called from a vast rock which bears a resemblance to a ruined castle." While the community is gone, the present day location for Castle Rock is 6,210 feet [1,893 m] above sea level.<5> In other words, the elevation of Castle Rock is about 1¼ mile [or ~1¾ km] above sea level. Time Zone: The area where Castle Rock was located is in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time The location where Castle Rock once stood is in the (435) area code.
