At the time of the 2010 Census, State College had a population of 42,034 people (which is 27.3% of the total population of Centre County). This makes State College the county's most populous community.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for State College was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the State College post office opened in 1874.
