The population of Iola represents 0.02% of the total population of Wisconsin (which has 5,686,986 people), making it the state's 678th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 1,301 people, the population of Iola has remained roughly the same as the 2000 Census (which had a count of 1,298 people).

We originally found mention of Iola in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Iola was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<5>

From that list, the Iola post office opened in 1858.

We also found Iola in the book titled List of Post Offices in the United States (1870).
