Welcome to Shafter Lake ...

So far, we found very little information about Shafter Lake. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

Shafter Lake was located in the Texas Panhandle.

Shafter Lake would have been located within present day Andrews County<2>.


The location of Shafter Lake has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<3>


While we don't have a date for the founding of Shafter Lake, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1907.

While the community is gone, the present day location for Shafter Lake is 3,160 feet [963 m] above sea level.<4> In other words, the altitude of Shafter Lake is about ½ mile above sea level.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Shafter Lake was on a map titled Map of Texas (from Rand McNally, 1911).

We also found Shafter Lake in the book titled .<6> From that list, the Shafter Lake post office opened in 1907.
