How Far From Sabine to ...
We spend a lot of time looking through Gazetteers, Almanacs & Directories that were published in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Many of the Gazetteers include the distance from a community such as Sabine to various places of note, such as the White House.
With a nod to our favorite Gazetteers, the straight-line distance beginning in Sabine and extending to:
- Beaumont, which is the Seat of Jefferson County, lies 29 miles [46.7 km]<2> to the north northwest. If you could walk a straight line from Sabine to Beaumont, with an average speed<5> of 2.2 miles [3.5 km] per hour, it would take just about two full days to make the trip. A horse and buggy averaging 3.2 miles [5.1 km] per hour would take just over a day.
- Austin, which is the State Capital of Texas, lies 234 miles [376.6 km] to the west (W). Driving, with an average speed of 63 miles [101.4 km] per hour, would take nearly four hours, a buggy would take 10 days and walking would take 14 days.
- The White House (Washington, DC) is 1,147 miles [1,845.9 km] to the northeast (NE). Driving would take over two days, a buggy would take 45 days and walking would take 66 days.
