Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Plainview had an population of 19,914 people. This is a decrease of 10.27% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 10.84% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Plainview had a population of 22,194 people (or 61.19% of the total population of Hale County). This makes Plainview the county's most populous community.

The population of Plainview represents 0.09% of the total population of Texas (which has 25,145,561 people), making it the state's 120th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 22,194 people, the population of Plainview has remained roughly the same as the 2000 Census (which had a count of 22,336 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Plainview was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Plainview post office opened in 1887.

We also found Plainview in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
