At the time of the 2010 Census, Big Spring had a population of 27,282 people (or 77.92% of the total population of Howard County). This makes Big Spring the county's most populous community.

The population of Big Spring represents 0.11% of the population of Texas (which has 25,145,561 people), making it the state's 98th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 27,282 people, the population of Big Spring increased 8.12% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 25,233 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Big Spring was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Big Spring post office opened in 1882.
