Do you know of Argo ???When we encounter a name that is new to us, we add it to our Gazetteer - that's the case with Argo. This entry has been created as a placeholder - we hope to develop more information in the future. This entry could be in error. It might be that our source had a mis-print, was simply wrong or we made a transcription error while referencing it. We hope to learn more about Argo in the future. We found mention of Argo as a post office, but can't determine its location - other than being located somewhere in Bowie County, Texas. It's common that the post office is named the same as the community in which it's located (although that's not always case). In this case, we can't match this post office to any of the existing communities in our gazetteer. While we don't have a date for the founding of Argo, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was on a map dated ?. Communities Also Named Argo ...Using our Gazetteer, we found that there are two Texas communities named Argo: This one is located in Bowie County and the other is located in Titus County. Beyond Texas, there are 21 communities that are also named Argo - they are located in Alabama (2), Colorado, Delaware, Georgia (2), Illinois (2), Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, North Carolina, South Dakota, Washington and West Virginia. Adding Argo to Our Gazetteer ...The earliest source we've referenced which mentioned Argo was on a map titled Map of Texas (from Rand McNally, 1911). We also found Argo in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895). Miscellaneous References and Mentions for Argo ...We've created the following list to keep track of the sources that proved useful in adding to our knowledge about Argo: Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895)
A note taken from the Shipper's Guide for Argo - Services available: had a Railroad Station, no Post Office mentioned Rand McNally Map of Texas (1911)
