Welcome to Ethel ...

So far, we found very little information about Ethel. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1>

Ethel would have been located within present day Roane County<2>.


The location of Ethel has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<3>


While we don't have a date for the founding of Ethel, you might consider that their post office opened  in 1880.

From the 2010 Census (the most recent Census number we have), Ethel had a population of 2,055 people.<4> (see below for details).

While the community is gone, the present day location for Ethel is 790 feet [241 m] above sea level.<5>.

Time Zone: The area where Ethel was located is in the Eastern Time Zone (EST/EDT) and observes daylight saving time

Note: If you travel west from Ethel (for example, toward Rogers), you will leave Eastern Time and cross into the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT).

Adding Ethel to Our Gazetteer ...

We originally found mention of Ethel in the GNIS. For more information, see the Referenced GNIS Codes section on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Ethel was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Ethel post office opened in 1880.

We also found Ethel in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
