Decatur County was founded in 1845 and was created by taking area from Perry County.
From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Decatur had a population of 11,608 people. This is a decrease of 1.27% since the last Census (which gave a population of 11,757 people in 2010).
At the time of the 2010 Census, Decatur represented 0.19% of the total population of Tennessee.
