The Atlas had details such as the population of the community (which appears to have come from the 1890 Census) and whether there was a post office and/or railroad service available. Komstad itself is historic and described in the Rand McNally Atlas as having a population of 38 people in 1895 with a post office and no railroad service. In 2014, Komstad had a population of 12 people.
