How Far From Jeffrey to ...
We spend a lot of time looking through Gazetteers that were published in the late 1800's and early 1900's. Many of the Gazetteers include the distance from a community such as Jeffrey to various places of note, such as the White House.
With a nod to our favorite Gazetteers and using the location of where the historic community of Jeffrey once stood, the straight-line distance beginning in Jeffrey and extending to:
- McIntosh, which is the Seat of Corson County, lies 39 miles [62.8 km]<1> to the west northwest. If you could walk a straight line from Jeffrey to McIntosh, with an average speed<6> of 2.2 miles [3.5 km] per hour, it would take over two days to make the trip. A horse and buggy averaging 3.2 miles [5.1 km] per hour would take just about two full days.
- Pierre, which is the State Capital of South Dakota, lies 94 miles [151.3 km] to the south (S). Driving, with an average speed of 63 miles [101.4 km] per hour, would take less than two hours, a buggy would take most of three days and walking would take 6 days.
- The White House (Washington, DC) is 1,285 miles [2,068 km] to the east southeast (ESE). Driving would take about three full days, a buggy would take 51 days and walking would take 73 days.
