Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, New Castle had an population of 21,617 people. This is a decrease of 7.12% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 17.83% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, New Castle had a population of 23,273 people (or 25.54% of the total population of Lawrence County). This makes New Castle the county's most populous community.

The population of New Castle represents 0.18% of the population of Pennsylvania (which has 12,702,379 people), making it the state's 23rd most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 23,273 people, the population of New Castle decreased 11.54% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 26,309 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for New Castle was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<8>

From that list, the New Castle post office opened in 1812.
