Centre County was founded February 13, 1800. Centre was created by taking area from Huntingdon, Lycoming, Mifflin and Northumberland Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Centre had a population of 162,385 people. This is an increase of 5.29% since the last Census (which gave a population of 154,230 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Centre represented 1.21% of the total population of Pennsylvania.
