The location of Syracuse has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<2> The pronunciation of Syracuse: SUR-uh-kewz<3> While we don't have a date for the founding of Syracuse, you might get a feel for it by knowing that during our research the earliest mention that we found (so far) was in a book dated 1895. When the people of Syracuse refer to themselves (known as a demonym), they frequently use Syracusan<4> From the Census Estimates for 2019, Syracuse has a population of 813 people<5> (see below for details). Population Details ...Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Syracuse had an population of 813 people. This is a decrease of 1.57% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 7.51% since the 2000 Census). At the time of the 2010 Census, Syracuse had a population of 826 people. This makes Syracuse the county's 3rd most populous community.
