Meigs County was founded April 1, 1819. Meigs was created by taking area from Gallia and Athens Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Meigs had a population of 22,907 people. This is a decrease of 3.47% since the last Census (which gave a population of 23,731 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Meigs represented 0.21% of the total population of Ohio.
