At the time of the 2010 Census, Geneseo had a population of 8,031 people (which is 12.28% of the total population of Livingston County). This makes Geneseo the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Geneseo represents 0.04% of the total population of New York (which has 19,378,102 people), making it the state's 301st most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 8,031 people, the population of Geneseo increased 5.96% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 7,579 people).
