Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Silver City had an population of 9,369 people. This is a decrease of 9.17% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 11.15% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Silver City had a population of 10,315 people (or 34.95% of the total population of Grant County). This makes Silver City the county's most populous community.

The population of Silver City represents 0.5% of the total population of New Mexico (which has 2,059,179 people), making it the state's 19th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 10,315 people, the population of Silver City decreased 2.18% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 10,545 people).
