Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Bayard had an population of 2,113 people. This is a decrease of 9.24% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 16.61% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Bayard had a population of 2,328 people (or 7.89% of the total population of Grant County). This makes Bayard the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Bayard represents 0.11% of the total population of New Mexico (which has 2,059,179 people), making it the state's 44th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 2,328 people, the population of Bayard decreased 8.13% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 2,534 people).
