Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Ruidoso had an population of 7,951 people. This is a decrease of 0.97% since the 2010 Census (or an increase of 3.29% since the 2000 Census).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Ruidoso had a population of 8,029 people (which is 39.26% of the total population of Lincoln County). This makes Ruidoso the county's most populous community.

The population of Ruidoso represents 0.39% of the total population of New Mexico (which has 2,059,179 people), making it the state's 26th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 8,029 people, the population of Ruidoso increased 4.3% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 7,698 people).

We originally found mention of Ruidoso in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Ruidoso was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<7>

From that list, the Ruidoso post office opened in 1882.

We also found Ruidoso in the book titled Business Atlas and Shippers' Guide (1895).
