The community of Carrizozo is the Seat for Lincoln County.

Lincoln County was founded in 1869 and was created by taking area from Socorro County.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Lincoln had a population of 19,730 people. This is a decrease of 3.74% since the last Census (which gave a population of 20,497 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Lincoln represented 1% of the total population of New Mexico.
