Welcome to Canton ...So far, we found very little information about Canton. The little that we've found leads us believe that the community is historic.<1> We've added Canton to our Gazetteer with the hope that we can develop more information. If you can help us with Canton, please Contact Us. Canton would have been located within present day DeBaca County<2>. The location of Canton has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<3> While we don't have a date for the founding of Canton, you might consider that their post office opened in 1910. When the people of Canton referred to themselves (known as a demonym), they are believed to have used Cantonian<4> While the community is gone, the present day location for Canton is 4,330 feet [1,320 m] above sea level.<5> In other words, the elevation of Canton is about ¾ mile [or ~1¼ km] above sea level. Time Zone: The area where Canton was located is in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time Note: If you travel east from Canton (for example, toward Farwell (TX)), you will leave Mountain Time and cross into the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT). Canton would have been located in the (575) area code.
