Welcome to Melrose ...The village of Melrose is located in southeast New Mexico. Melrose is located in Curry County<1>. The location of Melrose has been provided by the Geographic Names Information System (ie- the GNIS).<2> While we don't have a date for the founding of Melrose, you might consider that their post office opened in 1906. From the Census Estimates for 2019, Melrose has a population of 628 people<3> (see below for details). The community of Melrose is 4,400 feet [1,341 m] above sea level.<4> In other words, the elevation of Melrose is about ¾ mile [or ~1¼ km] above sea level. Time Zone: Melrose lies in the Mountain Time Zone (MST/MDT) and observes daylight saving time Note: If you travel east from Melrose (for example, toward Farwell (TX)), you will leave Mountain Time and cross into the Central Time Zone (CST/CDT). Melrose is located in the (575) area code. Population Details ...Taken from the 2019 Census Estimates, Melrose had an population of 628 people. This is a decrease of 3.53% since the 2010 Census (or a decrease of 14.67% since the 2000 Census). At the time of the 2010 Census, Melrose had a population of 651 people. This makes Melrose the county's 3rd most populous community. The population of Melrose represents 0.03% of the total population of New Mexico (which has 2,059,179 people), making it the state's 73rd most populous community.
