The community of Paterson is the Seat for Passaic County.

Passaic County was founded in 1837. Passaic was created by taking area from Bergen and Essex Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Passaic had a population of 501,838 people. This is an increase of 0.12% since the last Census (which gave a population of 501,226 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Passaic represented 5.7% of the total population of New Jersey.
