At the time of the 2010 Census, Clifton had a population of 84,136 people (or 16.76% of the total population of Passaic County). This makes Clifton the county's 2nd most populous community.

The population of Clifton represents 0.96% of the total population of New Jersey (which has 8,791,894 people), making it the state's 6th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 84,136 people, the population of Clifton increased 6.95% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 78,672 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Clifton was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>
