At the time of the 2010 Census, Butte had a population of 68 people. This makes Butte the county's 16th most populous community.

The population of Butte represents 0.01% of the total population of North Dakota (which has 672,591 people), making it the state's 317th most populous community.

With a 2010 count of 68 people, the population of Butte decreased 26.09% from the 2000 Census (which had a count of 92 people).

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found for Butte was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<6>

From that list, the Butte post office opened in 1927.

We also found Butte on a map titled Shell Oil Road Map for North Dakota (1949).
