Adding Gateway to Our Gazetteer ...

We originally found mention of Gateway in both the FIPS-55 and the GNIS. For more information, see the FIPS and GNIS Codes sections on our Miscellaneous Page.

From our notes, the earliest published mention we've found (so far) for Gateway was in the document titled List of Post Offices from Cameron Blevins and Richard Helbock.<5>

From that list, the Gateway post office opened in 1902. The Gateway post office closed in 1950.

For more details, see References and Mentions for Gateway.

Footnotes ...

<1>We use the term 'Historic' broadly and it generally means that the community no longer exists. However, it can also mean that the community might still exist, but was significantly larger or had a more 'official' existence in the past than it does now. Unfortunately our sources of data have proven to be unreliable. If you can provide us with more specific information about Gateway, please let us know so that we can improve our accuracy.
<2>If you're interested in how the shape of Montana's counties, including Lincoln, have changed over time, we recommend the Atlas of Historical County Boundaries.
<3>The elevation is an estimate for the area around Gateway - it will be higher in some places and lower in others.
<4>While we're fans and frequent users of TripAdvisor, you should know that we're also members of the TripAdvisor affiliate program.
