Panola County was founded in 1836. Panola was created by taking area from Monroe and Washington Counties.

From the Census Estimates for 2019, <1> Panola had a population of 34,102 people. This is a decrease of 1.74% since the last Census (which gave a population of 34,707 people in 2010).

At the time of the 2010 Census, Panola represented 1.17% of the total population of Mississippi.

While it makes interesting reading all by itself, it should be of special interest to genealogists and family historians looking for people who were either affected by or directly involved in such tragedies.
